Jobs at ANH-USA: Membership Director and Office Manager


The Alliance for Natural Health USA (ANH-USA) is seeking a Membership Director, who will be responsible for creating and implementing membership development plans to grow ANH-USA’s membership base. This position also functions as the Office Manager, responsible for the smooth operation of the ANH-USA office.

Our ideal applicant is first and foremost highly organized and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, has a background in membership/development or administrative work, and is looking for a role with room to grow.


This position reports to the Executive and Legal Director.

This is a full-time, salaried, and exempt position that will require occasional travel and evening or weekend work. The anticipated frequency of travel is an average of four to six 3-5 day trips per year, with less travel during summer and winter holidays and more travel during the busy fall and spring conference seasons (10-15% travel).

The Membership Director’s job duties may include:

Membership and Development – 60%

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to acquire and retain members at the consumer, professional, and industry level, as well as secure grant funding
    • Conduct semi-annual membership/donation drives by email, including drafting copy and using Convio to send messages
    • Ensure acknowledgments and renewals are kept up-to-date and sent on time
    • Recruit and retain corporate partners who share ANH-USA’s vision
    • Cultivate strong relationships with leadership of professional associations and other non-profits who are naturally aligned with ANH-USA
    • Attend conferences, potentially staffing a booth or presenting, to promote ANH-USA to attendees; or provide office support to other staff while attending conferences
    • Draft grant requests and grant reports
    • Research potential sources of funding (individuals, companies, and foundations)
    • Process donations by telephone and mail
    • Develop and implement creative marketing materials for a variety of target audiences
  • Serve as primary point of contact within the organization
    • Handle all calls and emails from members and the general public
    • Moderate comments on Pulse newsletter articles
  • Ensure membership and development program logistics are in place
    • Maintain high quality of donor records in Convio
    • Stay current on and implement new non-profit technologies and other offerings that enhance membership and development operations
    • Create and manage the budget for membership and development activities
    • Ensure state charitable organization registrations are kept current

Administrative – 30%

  • Sort postal mail and ensure all items received by mail are properly handled
  • Book travel arrangements for other staff
  • Manage relationships with landlord and external vendors
  • Ensure that organization is in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations affecting non-profits and/or employers
  • Assist bookkeeper with financial recordkeeping
  • Assist with hiring by posting job ads, receiving applications, and selecting applicants to be interviewed by hiring manager
  • Order office supplies and address any office issues that affect productivity (e.g. troubleshooting printer problems, internet outages, building issues)
  • Organize, attend, and take minutes at board meetings and conference calls
  • Plan all aspects of annual board meeting and other special events
  • Provide administrative support as needed to Executive Director (e.g. filing expense reports, managing cell phone plan and parking permit account, etc.)

Other – 10%

  • Conduct research for Pulse newsletter articles
  • Proofread all ANH-USA communications and documents drafted by other staff
  • Ensure and other websites are kept up-to-date and accurate
  • Remain current with ANH-USA’s activities and the surrounding political landscape
  • Maintain ANH-PAC records and file quarterly PAC reports with the FEC
  • Other duties as needed


A successful applicant should have:

  • 2 or more years’ experience in a non-profit membership/development or administrative role
  • Experience with Convio CRM
  • Superior writing and editing skills with an emphasis on brevity andpersuasiveness
  • Ability to self-manage, take ownership of projects, and juggle competing priorities
  • Ability to travel four to six weekends per year
  • Friendly, helpful demeanor
  • Personal interest in natural health is essential

Preference will be given to candidates who have these desirable, but not required, assets:

  • Experience writing copy for fundraising campaigns
  • Familiarity with WordPress
  • Familiarity with, and similar tools
  • Experience with a small organization undergoing rapid growth
