I was involved in an 18-month court case after I filed a complaint against a nurse practitioner. She had taken me off Armour thyroid and placed me on a compounded medication without a blood test, which resulted in my going into AFib. After I filed a complaint with the state board, she sued me in response.
During the court case, she put me on the stand alleging non-compliance, which ultimately backfired on her. Unfortunately, it took the judge 18 months—along with extensive motions, oppositions, and subpoenas—to rule that it was my constitutional right to file a complaint against a healthcare practitioner.
Your show last night on Coast was excellent. My experience is an example that we have the right to make medical choices, and if a healthcare practitioner treats us in a way that is not acceptable, we have the right to file a complaint or refuse treatment.
