Michael McGuffin, longtime president of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) and long-time collaborator with ANH, passed away on Monday at the age of 73 after a battle with cancer.
A pivotal figure in the herbal and dietary supplement industry, McGuffin’s influence spanned decades, predating the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) in 1994. Under his leadership, AHPA played a key role in shaping industry standards, from botanical safety guidelines to good agricultural practices. He also contributed to the landmark reference work Herbs of Commerce, which remains an essential resource for the global herbal community.
McGuffin’s dedication and leadership helped guide the industry through transformative growth, leaving a lasting impact on the field of herbal products and dietary supplements.
