From Joseph Mercola, DO
Thoughts, emotions and a variety of environmental factors play into the manifestation of violence, but mental illness by itself cannot account for the massive rise in mass murder — unless you include antidepressants in the equation. Yet even when mental health does enter the mass shooter discussion, the issue of antidepressants, specifically, is rarely mentioned.
The fact is, depression per se rarely results in violence. Only after antidepressants became commonplace did mass shootings take off, and many mass shooters have been shown to be on antidepressants.
Prozac, released in 1987, was the first selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) to be approved for depression and anxiety. Only two years earlier, direct-to-consumer advertising had been legalized. In the mid-1990s, the Food and Drug Administration loosened regulations, direct-to-consumer ads for SSRIs exploded and, with it, prescriptions for SSRIs.

I had already read this Dr. Mercola article before. One thing is the possible causes of mass shootings which the article addresses and another thing is the availability of weapons, mainly automatic weapons. There is huge difference between a country where in some states an individual can buy an automatic gun and another country where a single person has to use rocks, kitchen knifes or a baseball bat to kill indiscriminately . The statistics don’t lie, in countries like UK and Australia, that imposed restrictions on the accessibility to buy guns and implemented a successful campaign of buying back the existing guns among the population, saw their mass murder shootings fall drastically and in some cases fall to zero.
These drugs do NOT work!! My now deceased wife was heavily prescribed with psychotropic drugs for her depression. They only made her worse. One day I came home from work only to find her on the floor, dead from suicide. I blame the drugs. The drugs killed her.
