No, this isn’t about repealing or replacing Obamacare. It’s about empowering you to make your own healthcare choices. Action Alert!
In February we told you about the Health Savings Act of 2017. Sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN), SB 403/HR 1175 allows Health Savings Account (HSA) funds to go toward dietary supplements without having to get a doctor’s prescription; the same would apply to Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). The bill does this by expanding the term “medical care” to include vitamins, minerals, herbs, homeopathic remedies, and other natural health products, and would allow spending up to $1,000 each year. Similar legislation was introduced in 2011 and 2013.
We’re happy to report that the bill now also includes health coaches and nutrition services as allowable expenses for HSAs and FSAs. If passed, this bill will improve access to wellness and nutrition services for millions of people by allowing them to use pre-tax dollars for wellness expenses.
By making health coaches, nutrition services, and dietary supplements more affordable, this bill increases consumer choice and empowers individuals to take a proactive approach to their health.
Now, we must send a strong message of support to our elected officials to get momentum behind this important bill!
Action Alert! Write to your senators and representative in Congress, urging them to support SB 403/HR 1175, the Health Savings Act of 2017. Please send your message immediately.
