More reason to approach prescription drugs with caution. Action Alert!

A recent study found that the “inactive” ingredients used in many prescription drugs aren’t so inactive, and in fact impact many of the body’s molecular processes. The authors identified 38 inactive ingredients that interacted with 44 molecular targets; in some cases the level of activity observed was similar to that exhibited by active ingredients. These included ingredients meant to be used as food dyes, preservatives, and disinfectants, such as D&C red no. 28, propylparaben, benzethonium chloride, and thimerosal, a derivative of mercury that is used in some vaccines, mascaras, and eye contact solutions.

Most of the molecular targets the “inactive” ingredients acted upon were outside the digestive system where most drugs end up. But patients taking multiple medications with these ingredients, patients with leaky gut, or those taking IV medications could face risk from inactive ingredients in drugs—not to mention the active ingredients!

We’ve seen something similar with pesticides and herbicides, where the “inactive” ingredients have been found to be just as dangerous, if not more so, than the active ingredient. Research has shown that complete pesticide formulations are up to 1,000 times more toxic to human cells than the active ingredients alone.

This is important information to keep in mind when determining, in consultation with your (hopefully integrative) doctor which therapy is right for you. It’s important for us to have information about natural medicines, which do not present most of these dangers—but the government is gagging information about these treatments in relation to COVID-19 and beyond.

Action Alert! Tell Congress and the FDA to review “inert” drug ingredients for safety. Please send your message immediately. By sending this message, you will also be supporting our petition to ungag doctors so that they can share with patients the benefits of supplements and natural treatments for COVID.
