In last week’s newsletter, we reported that the staff of the Senate Committee on Aging, led by Senator Kohl (D-WI), was preparing a surprise ambush of dietary supplements in a Senate hearing held last Wednesday. Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) is working hard to add an amendment to the Food Safety Bill that would ban BPA in food containers. We oppose the Food Safety Bill but welcome Senator Feinstein’s proposed amendment.
This “sneak” legislative provision, going far beyond finance, provides a back door way to bypass the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), the legislation that governs dietary supplements. Please do not delay. We may have only a few days to stop this in the Senate.
